Manchester United suffered their first pre-season defeat of the Louis van Gaal era in the early hours of Thursday morning Irish time.

United cruised through their other pre-season fixtures against Club America, San Jose Earthquakes and Barcelona, but were brought swiftly back to earth with a 2-0 to French champions, Paris Saint-Germain.

Blaise Matuidi gave the french side thelead on 25 minutes with this scrappy effort, United guilty of some suspect defending.

The lead was doubled almost 10 minutes later when talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic slotted home for close range, after some neat build-up play.

United looked frail at the back and Phil Jones out of sorts, leaving fears that the 20-time English champions still have yet to address their defensive issues.

Speculation continues to surround the future of Spanish number one David de Gea and Argentine playmaker Angel Di Maria, the latter linked with a move to PSG in the very near future.

While much negativity may be drawn from last night's result, United will be given their first real test of the new season when they host Tottenham on August 8.
