Carlos Tevez's second half penalty proved to be the difference as Juventus beat Real Madrid 2-1 at home in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

Juve, who are appearing at this stage of the competition for the first time since 2003, went in front when former Real youngster Alvaro Morata tapped in after Iker Casillas parried Tevez's shot on eight minutes.

But poor marking saw Cristiano Ronaldo level the scores when he headed past Giangluigi Buffon from close range midway through the first half.

James Rodriguez headed against the crossbar just before the break, but it was Juve who would score next.

Tevez was brought down in the box by Dani Carvajal on 56 minutes during a Juventus counter-attack and the former Manchester City and United striker stroked in the resulting penalty to give the Italian champions the advantage ahead of the return leg at the Bernabeu.
