Cork All-Ireland winning footballer Fintan Goold has called time on his inter-county career, claiming he no longer has the "hunger" to play at the level required.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner, the 30-year-old admitted he had considered leaving the panel last year but decided to stick around for the 2016 campaign.

"I did think long and hard about it at the end of 2015," he said. "The way the Kildare game went, nobody wanted to finish on that note.

"I talked to Peadar [Healy] and said I’d give it one last crack, but I was picking up a lot of small injuries, maybe I was pushing myself a bit too hard trying to get back.

"I forced my way back into the panel alright for the Donegal game, but walking out of Croke Park that day, I knew my time was up."

Goold claimed an All-Ireland winner's medal in 2010 with the Rebel county and also featured in final defeats in 2009 and 2007.

The Macroom clubman follows Daniel Goulding out of the inter-county set-up as the latest announcement in recent weeks.
