Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Fernando Torres is "stable and conscious" after suffering a head injury in a La Liga match on Thursday night.

The former Liverpool striker was involved in an aerial challenge against Deportivo de la Coruna with five minutes of the game to go when he fell face first towards the turf.

The ex-Spain international appeared to be knocked unconscious amid frantic and worrying scenes on field as team-mates and medical staff immediately rushed to assist him.
