Tomorrow night on TV3, a documentary called Rugby’s Wheelchair Challenge will go to air and will feature a host of rugby personalities including Jamie Heaslip, Felix Jones and Shane Byrne.
Munster and Ireland full-back Jones joined us on Off The Ball tonight to explain his role in the documentary, which will see him and other participants make their way from the Aviva Stadium in Dublin to Limerick's Thomond Park confined to a wheelchair to raise awareness of the challenges faced by wheelchair users.
"It was an eye-opener. From my point of view, the reason I got involved in it was that I had a serious neck injury in 2009 where I was very lucky not to have my spinal cord damaged. Since then I got involved with Spinal Injuries Ireland, the charity, and that is where the link was made," he explained, also highlighting how Stephen Cluskey initiated the idea behind Rugby's Wheelchair Challenge.
Jones, who missed out on a place in Joe Schmidht's Ireland World Cup squad also spoke about his emotions as he watches his colleagues from the sidelines.
"I'm not going to lie. Obviously it's very difficult to watch but at the same time really exciting," he said, adding that the "tournament itself has been unbelievable".
