Three senior International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) officials have been handed lifetime bans from athletics as the fallout continues from the allegations of a widespread cover-up of doping cases.

One of the trio to be banned is Papa Massata Diack, the son of the governing body's former president Lamine Diack.

Russia's former chief long-distance athletics coach Alexei Melnikov and ex-Russian federation president and IAAF treasurer Valentin Balakhnichev were also banned for life.

The trio are accused of blackmailing 2010 London marathon winner Liliya Shobukhova in order to cover-up a positive drugs test.

The IAAF's former anti-doping chief Gabriel Dolle has been handed a five-year ban.
