Actor and director Jason Priestley tackles the subject of euthanasia in his first feature film Cas & Dylan starring Richard Dreyfus.
In the film, Dreyfus plays a doctor diagnosed with terminal brain cancer who decides to end his own life.
Speaking to The Green Room Jason Priestley says he believes euthanasia should be legalised.
“Absolutely, people should have the right to die on their own terms. People have the right to live on their own terms, why should they not have to the right to die on their own terms.”
Richard Dreyfus on set
The movie is the first full length feature film directed by Priestley who also directed episodes of the TV drama 90210 during the 1990s.
The cast engaged in a degree of improvisation on set, particularly Richard Dreyfus, who Priestley says was an inspiration to work with.
“Richard is such a giving, wonderful, warm person and just being on the set every day made everyone raise their game. He’s a fantastic person.”
“The dead bodies of last years teen idols”
The former teen idol said it is terrifying what young stars go through today in the world of social media admitting it was ‘scary enough’ in the 1990s.
“I can’t imagine what it’s like to live in that kind of fishbowl now. It‘s gotta be terrifying. For a young actor who wants to have a long career you can see the end of your career happening in front of your eyes. The hallways of the Screen Actors Guild are littered with the dead bodies of last year's teen idols.”
