Profile

Dubbed the Dutch Xavi for his passing ability, Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie has been a regular part of the Dutch national team ever since making his debut under Louis Van Gaal in 2012.

But even before Van Gaal’s arrival, the 22-year-old was on Bert Van Marwijk’s radar, making the standby list for Euro 2012.

Clasie has impressed this season at the base of Feyenoord’s midfield and also started the Netherland’s March friendly defeat to France.

Listen to The Telegraph, ESPN and FourFourTwo writer Elko Born, who also previewed Holland's campaign with me, profiled the player:

Key Stats

Clasie racked up seven assists in 32 games this season for Feyenoord. He has also been tidy in possession with an 85 per cent completion rate with only 31 per cent of those aimed backwards.

This Summer

Kevin Strootman’s absence through injury has increased the prospects of a starting place for the diminutive Clasie.

In a recent friendly against Ecuador, the No 6 set up a Robin Van Persie chest down and volley with a wonderful lofted pass...

Van Gaal’s trust in young players will be a boost for Clasie’s chances as he looks to make a mark on a bigger stage than the Dutch Eredivisie.
