Dublin defeated Kerry 0-12 to 0-09 to knock the reigning champions off their throne in sloppy conditions at Croke Park this afternoon.

There was little between the two sides in the end but Dublin's resilience in front of their own goal in refusing to offer Kerry goal chances was key to their three point victory. The introduction of Kieran Donaghy proved futile as Dublin closed up shop having raced into a lead that they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.

Dublin didn't score a goal either but had a couple of decent chances in the second half.

Dublin started off the better team and had a score within the opening minute when Brian Fenton pointed after twenty seconds.

Dublin continued to put pressure on Kerry and led 0-08 to 0-04 at half time. The conditions continued to get worse but Dublin made the most of them despite Kerry battling back to within two points with ten minutes to go.

Cillian Young was gifted with an opportunity to level matters but fumbled the ball in the wet conditions and Dublin scored from the resulting counter attack.

It was all over bar the shouting at that stage and Dublin would go on to seal a three point victory to win their third All Ireland in five years.
