The 45-year veteran commentator expressed his delight that former Manchester United manager is making a full recovery. He says he spoke with Ferguson via phone, and said the manager confirmed he was doing well.

"Just before I was going to the Oaks, he rang me, himself. He was brilliant though. I knew the way he spoke on the phone that he was in good shape. He wished me well and that he was in good shape, and recovering day-by-day.

Ferguson released a video statement yesterday regarding his condition on the Manchester United twitter feed. it was his first public appearance since surgery, last May.

The recently retired commentator detailed Ferguson's recouperation process after a lengthy conversation with the Scot.

"He was doing twenty minutes on the bike; walking for fifteen - and he has a nurse coming in to him, twice a week. Just for the balance. He's going away to France for three weeks, and he's going to a match in September."
