Former Mayo footballer David Brady looked ahead to the clash with an "unpredictable" Derry team as they look to navigate through the All-Ireland qualifiers.

Speaking to Off the Ball's Joe Molloy he reflected on the 2007 loss to the Ulstermen.

"Yes, the last time I ever pulled on a pair of boots, Joe," he said. "The last time I togged out for Mayo and a bad result, a bad day back in 2007. Look it's ten years ago. For me personally, it was the end of an era and the start of some plastic surgery.

"It was a bad defeat against a Derry team that are exactly the same as they are today, as they were 10 or 20 years ago. They're just unpredictable as well.

"I broke my nose and fractured my eye-socket. It was a combination of old age and clumsiness on my part as well. I got a knee to the face but then I ended up with €10,000 worth of plastic surgery so I've never looked better and never looked back," he added.

Looking ahead to this weekend's clash between the two, he said: "If we look back 12 months ago, we still didn't see the appetite when they went on the run in the backdoor. We didn't see that appetite, that release of energy until the Tyrone game.

"It was palpable and you could see 'right, we're back' and I do think they hadn't any major performances since the Kildare game. I think they need a big performance."
