Daniel Martin came agonisingly close to winning his second Tour de France stage victory as he finished second in this afternoon's stage on the famous Mur de Bretagne.

Martin went into the stage as one of the favourites for the win and in his Irish Times column this morning he said a win today was "a huge goal for me". France got their first stage win of the Tour. AG2R La Mondiale rider Alexis Vuillermoz won the stage.

Chris Froome remains in the leaders Yellow Jersey, 11 seconds ahead of Peter Sagan. It was a good day for Sagan who took charge of the Green Jersey to add to his White Jersey for best Young Rider.
