As Ireland's latest qualifier draws closer, one of the positions most speculated about is in goals where David Forde has been the long-term No 1.

But Shay Given's return to the international scene has led to a possibility that the former long-time starting keeper could re-establish himself.

The Irish Independent's Dan McDonnell was on Off The Ball's Football Show as always tonight and gave his take on the battle between the two keepers.

"You do think in some ways, what was the point of bringing Shay Given back unless you felt the management wanted to play him. That's why I keep thinking, Given is going to be dropped into the team at some point because bringing him back and having him as an understudy for an entire campaign would be slightly unusual and you would think that coming in under a reasonable run of games - by the standards of the last 18 months - is maybe the chance that management take to drop him in."
