The GAA are poised to backtrack on plans for a new hooter timing system at matches.

According to today's Irish Independent, the introduction of the procedure - which has been successfully used in ladies football for several years - has been scrapped following Central Council's decision to submit a motion to next month's Congress for the rule to be deleted.

The move follows discussions at the weekend when reservations were expressed about the practicalities of the proposed system, while the ditching of the idea comes just three months before its planned introduction.

The GAA had trialled the system during last year's Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cups finals weekend when the feedback was favourable - with some reservations - and 2015 was pencilled in for its introduction. That intention looks dead in the water now, however.
