The Copa America begins in the early hours of tomorrow morning as hosts Chile play the opening match against Ecuador. BBC South American football correspondent Tim Vickery joined Ger last night to look ahead to the tournament on Off The Ball.
The tournament sees the return of its traditional knockout format, with the quarter finals and semi finals going straight to a penalty shoot-out if the sides are level after 90 minutes. 30 minutes of extra time will only be used in the final if needed.
Vickery says the reason for that format is down to television companies. He calls the Copa America, a "made for tv competition".
The format can be positive for attacking football, according to Vickery who feels the penalty shootouts adds "a chance for a surprise side".
Of the 12 sides in the tournament, Vickery feels the winners will come from Argentina, Brazil, or hosts Chile.
