The UFC is in line to break its own pay-per-view record following UFC 196 which took place last weekend.

The promotion claims that the event, which was headlined by the Nate Diaz v Conor McGregor fight, is expected to be their most profitable event ever in terms of pay-per-view earnings.

The current record was set in 2009 when UFC 100 grossed 1.6 million PPVs and second to that is UFC 194 - where Conor McGregor dethroned Jose Aldo - with 1.2 million.

But now it looks as though UFC 196 will bypass both of those events based on the promotion's projections.

PPV subscriptions usually cost between $50-55 dollars and considering that Conor McGregor takes home $5-7 for each PPV sold at events he headlines, he can expect to make a profit that will surely bring some comfort to the Nate Diaz defeat.

He already has the basic $1m purse and when you factor in all the earnings from all his sponsorship deals, the Crumlin born fighter should comfortably surpass the reported $8m he was awarded at UFC 194.
