Two stunning strikes won this game for Everton, although the reality was that for long periods this game failed to live up to the billing of two exciting, passing sides doing battle.
Seamus Coleman hit a perfect, swerving drive from 30 yards into the top corner of Gerhard Tremmel’s goal. It was a moment of power and beauty and exactly what the game needed to force it open.
Swansea responded within 4 minutes. The equaliser lacked all of the style and skill of Everton’s opener. Dwight Tiendalli’s shot inside the Everton box was deflected off Bryan Oviedo past Tim Howard in the Everton goal.
The winning goal was Ross Barkley’s and came from a free kick 25 yards out. Ben Davies fouled James McCarthy and Barkley took the opportunity to lift the ball over the Swansea wall and into the top corner of Tremmel’s goal.
The win makes it ten games since Roberto Martinez’s side lost and puts them into the top 4, just 2 points off league leaders Liverpool.
