Claudio Ranieri has set what he feels are realistic expectations for Leicester City as his side prepare to defend their Premier League crown in August.

Ranieri faces Jose Mourinho's Manchester United in the Community Shield next month and told the BBC's Tom Brown that the targets are clear.

"40 points, then top half, then get through the Champions League, then if possible to lift another cup."

Ranieri celebrated reaching the 40-point mark last season while his team were top of the Premier League table and only said he would challenge for the title in the final weeks of the league, with his side holding a five point cushion.

With regards to their squad, he also insisted that the future of coveted midfielder N'Golo Kante is in the hands of the player.

"We offered him a new deal before he went to the Euros. I know there are a lot of big teams interested. It's in his hands."

The Italian says his side are ready for the new season and understands the difference it poses to last term.

"There is no pressure on us, we're the champions. The new champions will have to fight against us - not just the new champions but everybody.

"We know it will not be the same but we are ready."
