Dundalk have picked up their second win from two as they begin their SSE Airtricity League title defence.

The Lilywhites who are aiming for a fourth Premier Division title in a row beat Sligo Rovers 4-0 away from home at the Showgrounds.

Patrick McEleney opened the scoring on 12 minutes, before off-season signing Michael Duffy, formerly of Derry City, added a second on 36 minutes.

Ciaran Kilduff added the third with 14 minutes to go 10 minutes after Sligo had Jonah Ayunga sent off.

Thomas Stewart scored the fourth for Dundalk with eight minutes to go.

Stephen Kenny's team join Cork City, Bray Wanderers and Drogheda United on six points after the first two games of the 2017 season.

For Sligo however, the heavy defeat is a further blow to manager Dave Robertson.

On the opening weekend, they also fell to a defeat by a four goal margin after Limerick defeated them 5-1 partly down to a Rodrigo Tosi hat-trick.

They are now bottom of the table with a goal difference of minus eight.

In the First Division, Cobh Ramblers earned a 3-1 win at Longford Town.
