Brendan Irvine becomes the fifth Irish boxer to qualify for this summer's Olympic Games in Rio after he came through his box-off this evening.
The 19-year-old beat Bulgaria’s Daniel Asenov recording a unanimous decision victory.
All three judges scored the contest 29-27 in his favor. After a strong start from Asenov, Irvine came out strongly to edge his opponent and secure the victory.
He joins Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan, Steven Donnelly and Joe Ward who have all already qualified.
Katie Taylor missed her opportunity to qualify yesterday after she suffered her first defeat in five years. David Oliver Joyce will also have to come through a box-off to qualify for the Games. He faces Volkan Gokcek tomorrow.
