UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin says he can see "no way" that Liverpool could finish the season without being crowned Premier League champions.

Jurgen Klopp's side are currently 25 points clear of second-placed Manchester City with eight games remaining but the Premier League season has been suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus.

Liverpool know two more wins would guarantee a first top-flight title in 30 years but the resumption of the season seems a long way off because of the global pandemic.

Ceferin expects Liverpool to wrap up the title when the season continues but if the campaign has to be cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, he doesn't think there is an option to null and void the season.

The UEFA President told Slovenian outlet Ekipa: "I see no way for Liverpool to stay untitled. If the championship resumes, they will almost certainly win it - theoretically, it has not yet reached the guaranteed level, but it is practically close.

"However, if it could not be played, it would also be necessary to announce the results in some way and find some key on how the champions should be determined. And, of course, again I do not see a scenario in which that would not be Liverpool.

"I understand that fans will be disappointed if it happens in an empty stadium or even at the green table, but I believe they will win the title one way or another."

The Premier League said last week that play would only restart once it is “safe and appropriate”, with discussions ongoing as to how to complete the remaining 92 fixtures.

There has been plenty of talk of games being played behind closed doors to ensure the season is completed.

FIFA is also expected to confirm an indefinite extension to the season across the globe that will allow each country’s football authority to determine when campaigns can finish.
