Austria will be without striker Marc Janko for the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Ireland on Sunday.

The 33 year old Sparta Prague forward has been ruled out of the game at the Aviva Stadium with tonsilitis.

Austria are already without a host of players through injury and suspension, with Stoke City forward Marco Arnautovic among suspended.

Janko has scored almost 30 international goals for Austria during more than a decade with the senior national team.

Ireland beat Austria in Vienna last November and Martin O'Neill's side currently hold a four point advantage over the Alpine nation heading into Sunday's match.

A win for the Boys in Green would stretch that lead to seven points and realistically help take Austria out of the equation in the race to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Serbia are level on points with Ireland in the group but are ahead on goal difference and Wales are four points further back, level with Austria.
