World number one Rory McIlroy has revealed a quirky annual ritual he has to the start of his golfing year.

The Holywood native says he writes down his goals on the back of a plane boarding pass and doesn't look at it again until the end of the year.

McIlroy plays his first tournament of 2015 at the Abu Dhabi Championship this week.

He has scribbled on boarding passes for a while, and jokes his success is reflected in the changing seat numbers. 

Meanwhile, the Ulsterman says he is relishing his return to action and admits he will try to treat the build-up to April’s Masters like any other tournament.
