Aston Villa have stepped up their transfer spending in the wake of the departures of former lead striker Christian Benteke and captain Fabian Delph.

The club have announced the capture of Ghana international, Jordan Ayew from French club, Lorient.

The 23-year-old striker, who is the brother of fellow Ghana international Andre Ayew and the son of the country's former star Abedi Pele Ayew, has signed a five-year deal.

The ex-Marseille player netted 12 league goals for Lorient last season.

Meanwhile, Cordoba full-back, Jose Angel Crespo, is also set to have a medical at Villa today.

Crespo, who is a graduate of Sevilla's youth system, only joined relegated La Liga side Cordoba permanently earlier this season.

This summer, Villa have already signed goalkeeper Mark Bunn from Norwich, French defender Jordan Amavi from Nice, Lille's Idrissa Gueye and ex-England full-back Micah Richards, as well as bringing in Scott Sinclair permanently from Manchester City.
