Roberto Di Matteo has been named as the new Aston Villa manager, following speculation linking him to the job in recent weeks.

The newly-relegated club made an official announcement on their social media channels, pointing to his record of winning the FA Cup and Champions League with Chelsea, as well as his successful promotion campaign with West Brom in 2010.

The Italian himself stated that "It's a wonderful honour for me to become manager of this great football club and I'm looking forward to the challenge of taking Aston Villa back to its rightful place."

One of the first jobs on Di Matteo's to-do list when he gets his feet under the desk will be an overhaul of the squad, and it seems that he may have to plan for life without Jack Grealish, if reports are to be believed.

The move comes after a busy few days of managerial appointments, as Blackburn appointed Owen Coyle, Garry Monk joined Leeds, and fellow-Champions League winner Rafael Benitez confirmed he would be staying with Newcastle despite their relegation to the Championship.
