The Arizona Cardinals have made history as they have appointed Jen Welter as a linebackers coach for the 2015/16 preseason. This is a historic move for women and the NFL. Welter, is the first female to hold a coaching position of any kind in the NFL.
In February Welter became the first female coach in a men's professional football league when she was hired by the Texas Revolution of the Indoor Football League to coach linebackers and special teams.
Welter played professional football for more than 14 years as a linebacker, mostly with the Dallas Diamonds of the Women's Football Alliance. She helped lead them to four championships.
