Former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka's joined Indian Super League side Mumbai City FC.

The Frenchman has been a free agent after his controversial exit from West Brom earlier this year.

Anelka received a Football Association ban for giving a "quenelle gesture", which some believe to be anti-Semitic.

The 35-year-old has played in France, England, Spain, Turkey and China during his career.

The new Indian Super League features veteran stars such as ex-Arsenal winger Robert Pires and will also line up in the same Mumbai side as former Gunner Freddy Ljungberg. Anelka's former France team-mate Davide Trezeguet will play for Pune City, while ex-Liverpool midfielder Luis Garcia and former Juventus attacker Alessandro Del Piero are the marquee players at Atletico de Kolkata and Delhi Dynamos respectively.

Mumbai City is managed by former Sunderland boss Peter Reid.
