Andy Murray defeated American John Isner this weekend to win the Paris Masters.

Murray, who recently ascended into the world number one ranking, collected his sixth ATP title of 2016 with a 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 victory against Isner.

His rival Novak Djokovic previously held the number one spot for over 120 weeks, and the Serb could reclaim the spot if he wins every match at the World Tour Finals.

Murray's number one spot was virtually assured after Milos Raonic's withdrawal from yesterday's semi-final due to injury. But the Wimbledon champion was made to work for the number one crown against Isner.

He double-faulted on the first point of the game and could only manage six points on his opponent's serve in the first set. But he gradually picked his American apart and rallied to victory.
