Golf is a game of honour and of self regulation.

Six days after qualifying for the next round of the tough, unforgiving Q school that acts as a qualifying system for the PGA Tour- Blayne Barber disqualified himself from the previous round.

Barber qualified from the first weekend of Q school with ease, finishing five strokes ahead of the cut off point. However, during his second round he thought he had brushed a leaf in a bunker. His caddie, his brother, was adamant there was no infraction- the leaf hadn"t moved. But Barber told his playing partner about it and accepted a one shot penalty.

That evening Barber was speaking to a former college teammate, Michael Hebert, who informed him that the penalty for such an infraction was actually two shots, not the one which Barber had taken. Barber told Golf Week “I continued to pray about it and think about it, and I just did not have any peace about it...I knew I needed to do the right thing. I knew it was going to be disqualification.”

Barber called the PGA tour, six days after the tournament had finished to report himself. Unfortunately, the penatly now was not the one extra shot for the touched leaf, but rather disqualification for signing a, now, incorrect scorecard. Barber thus dropped out of the Q school and lost his chance at a PGA Tour card. He will now have to attempt Monday qualifying for each tournament on the PGA and Web.com tours, for the entirety of 2013.

The 22 year old said he didn"t regret his decision, saying, “I just feel peace about it...Doing the right thing and doing what I know is right in my heart and in my conscience is more important than short-term success."
