Raphael Varane is said to be anxious for his mooted move to Manchester United to go through as soon as possible.

The France international defender is due to return to pre-season training with Real Madrid on Wednesday.

Varane has been on holiday since his country's last-16 defeat to Switzerland at Euro 2020.

United lead the queue for the 28-year old's signature after he turned down the offer of a contract extension in Madrid. Varane has just entered the final year of his deal with Los Blancos.

Valued at around €70million by Real, United have so far been unwilling to go above €50million in their pursuit of the former Lens defender.

According to AS, Varane does not want to start pre-season training with one team and then have to start all over with another. The Real squad have already begun preparations for the new season in Valdebebas.

In terms of negotiating, United would seem to hold most of the cards.

Real's financial position is such, that they'd be keen to get Varane's wages off their books while pocketing a cool €50-60million in the process.

When asked about Varane's potential arrival at the weekend, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer curtly responded, "I'm not talking about players from other clubs".

They're due to dot the i's and cross the t's on their deal to bring Jadon Sancho to Old Trafford this week.

An €85million deal with Borussia Dortmund has already been agreed. Speaking after a pre-season friendly with Derby at the weekend, Solskjaer said, "From what I understand only paperwork, small little details [need completing], hopefully we can announce something.

"Let’s get all the paperwork done and get him over the line and then I can say what I truly feel about the player."

Back-up goalkeeper Tom Heaton remains United's only done deal so far this summer.
