Hidden Histories: 'The Bell'

In the history of Irish publications, few are as important as 'The Bell'. It launched careers and annoyed plenty of people. When its founding editor stepped aside, he joked he was bored of “abusing our bourgeoise, Little Irelanders, chauvinists, puritans, and Celtophiles” among others. Now, a new publication 'The Writers Touch', brings together 'The Bell' and Ireland’s current leading literary magazine, 'The Stinging Fly', a much-loved magazine of its own time that has fulfilled the same role in some ways. Donal Fallon joins Gavan for another episode of Hidden Histories to discuss.
