On 15 August 1947, India achieved its independence from the United Kingdom, and remarkably, just one year later, the country was part of Éamon de Valera’s unprecedented worldwide speaking tour against partition.

Having just lost political power at home, de Valera embarked on a tour that brought him through the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and India, reigniting his political star power on the world stage - or at least, in parts of the world still interested.
