On the 6th March in 1964, Cassius Clay announced that he was no more, and a new star was born - Muhammad Ali.

This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of Ali’s bout in Croke Park, a media circus in its time.

Bankrolled by the eccentric businessman Butty Sugrue, the visit of one of the world’s great stars somehow lost money.

This visit was viewed as something of a ‘comeback tour’, given his outspoken views on the Vietnam War. In the end, it proved a very strange affair.
