History was made yesterday as Trinity College appointed its first female Provost in its 429 year history.

Linda Doyle, Professor of Engineering and the Arts and a former Dean of Research, saw off fellow senior academics Linda Hogan and Jane Ohlmeyer in yesterday’s election, and is set to become the first woman to lead one of Ireland’s traditional universities on a permanent basis when she takes office on August 1st.
