Prison officers say overcrowding is once again becoming a major problem in the prison system with an increasing number of inmates sleeping on mattresses in cells.  The Prison Officers' Association says overcrowding is particularly bad in the Midlands Prison in Portlaoise, Cork Prison and the Dóchas Centre in Dublin and puts both staff and prisoners at unnecessary risk.

This comes as Prison Officers' Association in met last week in Sligo and highlighted a number of areas of concern.  John Cuffe, Criminologist & Former Prison Officer and Gary Cunningham, Author and ex-Mountjoy inmate joined Shane Beatty to discuss what life is really like on the inside…
