As energy prices look set to rise sharply amid the war in Iran, Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers has played down the prospect of immediate cost-of-living supports, warning of an “extremely volatile, uncertain and unpredictable” situation and saying the Government won’t act in the short term. Should the Government move faster and introduce supports now or is it right to wait and assess how the crisis unfolds?
