Time now to return to our series exploring Newstalk’s 20 most influential moments of the past two decades. Everyday, across the station, we’re looking back at an influential moment chosen by our listeners.  

  

Today, we're talking about the death of 3-year-old Alan Kurdi, a Syrian refugee, whose image appeared on TVs and newspapers across the globe after he drowned in the Mediterranean in 2015.  

 The image sent shockwaves around the world – but the situation for refugees coming to Europe is still dire in many places.  

 Franziska Grillmeier is a Freelance Journalist based on Lesvos Island, Greece and she joins me on the line now to tell us what it’s like...
