There has been an 80% increase in referrals to HSE hubs treating eating disorders so far in 2021 compared to all of 2019. Experts have said that social media is playing a role in driving the increase. Dr Caroline Maher  Consultant Psychiatrist and Co-Chair of the Special Interest Group in Eating Disorders at the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland.
