A pro-Donald Trump protest was taking place outside Government buildings in Washington DC when the mob forced their way into Capitol Hill in a stunning attempt to overturn America’s presidential election, undercut the nation’s democracy and keep Joe Biden from replacing Trump in the White House.

Four people died in the proceedings including a woman who was shot, as well as three others who died in medical emergencies.

Donald Trump has been widely blamed for inciting the violent protest. In a video President Trump seemed to praise protestors while once again made entirely false and baseless claims that the US election was fraudulent.

Clare was joined by callers living in Ireland originally from the US.
