A teenage girl has told a Kildare murder trial that she saw a man hitting her friend "really hard" in the head with a baseball bat.

Zoltan Almasi of Harbour View in Naas denies murdering 20-year-old Joseph Dunne in May 2014.

The 17-year-old girl, who cannot be identified because of her age, gave her evidence through a live videolink this afternoon.

On May 16th 2014, she met Joseph Dunne and three other friends at a bridge at the harbour in Naas.

Joseph - or JoJo as she called him - had a lot to drink and she said he was in bad form as they made their way home.

Earlier, another friend said he hit a van which was parked on Harbour View.

The girl said she heard someone shouting at JoJo.

She said he was really angry and saw him raise a bat with his right hand, which he swung downward - striking the 20-year-old in the side of the head before running away.

Mr Dunne fell to the ground and died a short time later.

The prosecution believes Mr Almasi carried out the attack in retaliation for what happened to his van. The 44-year-old denies the charge.
