Independent candidate Dr Michael Harty will win a seat in Clare.

Newstalk's political pundit Ivan Yates is changing the prediction he gave for the outcome of Friday's election.

Yates gave the forecast as part of Newstalk's series of constituency predictions for the General Election.

In his original prediction he gave a seat to Independent candidate Ann Norton, but he now believes that seat is more likely to go to Harty.

Norton will be left out of the final result, which will see two seats go to Fine Gael, one to Fianna Fáil and one seat filled by an Independent.

1. Pat Breen (FG)

2. Timmy Dooley (FF)

3. Joe Carey (FG)

4. Michael Harty (IND)

Labour TD Michael McNamara will lose his seat  in Clare - according to Newstalk Breakfast presenter Ivan Yates.

Sitting TDs: Pat Breen (FG), Joe Carey (FG), Michael McNamara (LAB) and Timmy Dooley (FF).

Yates is forecasting that relative newcomer and Independent County Councillor Ann Norton will take the final seat in this constituency.

She will join the three remaining sitting TDs on their re-election, but it is Labour who will lose out.

Yates has called the race for that final seat a 'Pandora's box'.

The forecast comes as part of Newstalk Breakfast presenter Ivan Yates' series of election predictions. In the weeks leading up to polling day, he is calling the outcome for each of the 40 constituencies.

Clare constituency

Clare is a four seat constituency, unchanged in the recent review of electoral regions.

All four sitting TDs are seeking re-election for Fine Gael, Labour and Fianna Fáil.

There are 15 candidates running in the Clare constituency.

On a side note, The Green Party is running with Ireland's first professional surfer - Fergal Smith.

Predicted outcome

Yates is calling the result as two seats for Fine Gael, one for Fianna Fáil and one Independent.

1. Pat Breen (FG)

2. Timmy Dooley (FF)

3. Joe Carey (FG)

4. Ann Norton (IND)

Ivan Yates says: "There is no reason why Pat Breen won't top the poll again for Fine Gael, as he did in 2011".

However, the government parties will suffer and pundit Yates predicts that Labour's Michael McNamara will lose his seat. His elimination will likely secure the second Fine Gael seat for Joe Carey on transfers.

Fianna Fáil's Tommy Dooley faces a lot of competition, but will hold his seat - in fact, he will be the second candidate elected here.

The fourth seat is a free for all but Independent Ann Norton is in contention because she could pick up votes all over the place, according to Yates.

Businesswoman and health advocate Norton won Clare Person of the Year in 2013. She is a disability rights campaigners and is involved with the care of 350 children. Her election would be against the odds and would cause some upset.

Independent candidate and GP Michael Harty, who will be with her until the end, is running on a 'No doctor no village' platform. That campaign is winning attention nationally.

Sinn Féin does not have good infrastructure in this constituency and will not win a seat.
