A young woman has died in a car crash in County Donegal.

Gardaí said there was one car involved in the crash at Drumfad Lower in Portsalon, at around 11:30pm last night.

The woman was driving the car and was aged in her mid 20s. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been taken to Letterkenny University Hospital where a post mortem will take place.

A man in his mid 20s suffered non-life threatening injuries and is being treated at the Letterkenny hospital.

The road remains closed ahead of a Garda forensic examination. Local diversions are in place.

Investigators are appealing for anyone with information, particularly any drivers who were travelling the Kerrykeel to Portsalon road (R246) around the time of the accident and may have dash cam footage, to come forward.
