A woman has died after the car she was driving crashed into a barrier in County Tipperary this morning.

Gardaí said the collision occurred on the M7 between Moneygall and Nenagh at around 7am.

The woman – whose age remains unknown – was the only occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial investigations indicate the car struck a barrier, according to gardaí.

The M7 motorway between Moneygall and Toomevara is currently closed as gardaí carry out forensic investigations.

It will remain closed for a number of hours and diversions remain in place.
