The Irish Air Corps were lucky enough to catch a rare sighting of whales off the coast of Galway yesterday.

While on a routine maritime patrol just west of Clifden, Connemara, Corporal Pat O'Meara, the crew's photographer, snapped the rare sighting of the pod. 

The 101 Squadron spotted the beautiful creatures 120 nautical miles from the bay.

They have notified the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group.
