U2 have posted footage of the four-plane-flyover that delighted fans at their gig in Croke Park on Saturday.

The jet planes swooped over the arena with trails of green white and gold, as the band played their iconic hit, ‘Where the Streets Have No Name.’

The band has thanked the French civilian acrobatic patrol La Patrouille Tranchant for taking part - as they prepare for the next leg of their 30th anniversary Joshua Tree Tour in Paris tonight.

Presidential welcome

Frontman Bono met with the French President Emanuel Macron yesterday after the band touched down in Paris ahead of the gig.

Following the meeting the Dubliner told reporters that President Macron had pledged to boost development aid to 0.55% of GDP by 2022.

The French President made a campaign pledge to boost the country’s aid budget to 0.7% of GDP by 2030 – however since taking office he has come in for criticism for cutting the budget instead of boosting it.

A number of charities – including Bono’s ONE anti-poverty foundation – have called on President Macron to reverse the cuts and honour his campaign promises.

New baby

Meanwhile, the band’s bassist Adam Clayton and his wife Mariana have announced the birth of their daughter.

The couple made the announcement in a personal notice of today’s Irish Times.
