The cheetah is the world’s fastest land animal. In just three seconds, the cat can reach its top speed of 110kmph, covering between six and seven metres in a single stride. With its long rudder-like tail to help it change direction in a fraction of a second through and its paws, with semi non-retractable claws that allow it to grip the ground, it’s safe to say you don’t want to see one coming for you.

Which is why attaching a GoPro camera to a cheetah’s back makes for such a fascinating video. At the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, the keepers fitted out one of their Cheetahs, Savanna, with a special harness and a camera, capturing the animal’s point of view while tearing through its enclosure.

The video show’s Savanna bolting through the grass at full speed and is then repeated in slow motion, revealing how the predator’s head remains still while running, even while the rest of its body is a bundle of shaky, kinetic energy. Take a look at the video below:
