The Dogs Trust charity is making a Valentine's Day appeal to home a canine couple, who have been in their care for almost a year.

Both dogs were found in appalling conditions and have since become inseparable while in recovery.

Yara, a two-year-old Beagle mix, was found seriously injured in a field and had to undergo emergency surgery to save her life.

Both dogs were covered in parasites and suffering from hair loss and severe skin issues as a result.

After meeting in kennels, the pair struck up an immediate bond.

Dogs Trust has said their love for each other not only helped mend their broken hearts, "but set them firmly on the road to recovery."

The charity was able to find a foster home for the pair but is now hoping to find them a permanent home together.

Sandra Ruddell is Assistant Operations Manager at Dogs Trust Ireland.

"We are so grateful to their fosterers, as both girls have blossomed and fully healed," she said.

"They are now friendly, well-behaved and energetic dogs and we can’t wait to find them their forever home together.

"They would suit a family with children over 16 and would love a garden to play in, so we are hoping to find somebody with a big heart willing to adopt this beautiful pair."

Ciara Murran, Head of Communications at Dogs Trust, said a lot of their dogs don't get many visitors.

"This Valentine’s Day, we are appealing to people to consider sponsoring a dog for the special dog lover in their lives," she said.

"This will help us to continue to be there for dogs like Evie and Yara when they need us most.

"We have lots of very special dogs, who have been with us a while now, searching for special homes, especially those in quieter areas with few visitors.

"There is a lot of time and attention required when taking on any dog, particularly one of our long term dogs, but we believe it’s most definitely worth the unconditional love you will receive in return," she added.
