Finally we are here. Six weeks of hell. Six weeks of fooling ourselves that we voluntarily took part in Dry January. We fooled ourselves even more by signing up for either a gym or a night class. Well, the charade is over. Payday has arrived. Go forth and spend, spend, spend.
What better way to start this spree than with a song in your heart. As the saying goes, when you want to sing a song, sing an Irish song. The one I’ve chosen is a classic but tinged with some sadness.
This week marks the 30th anniversary of the death of Luke Kelly. His flaming red hair is instantly recognisable as is his velvet tones. For those young people with iTunes, he is there! Check him out.
The song I’ve chosen is about unrequited love. It’s about Dublin. It will bring spring a bit nearer as it does have a spring-like quality to it. It also has a lovely poetic quality to it which is not surprising as it was written by Patrick Kavanagh. It gets even better...
I’ve found a video of a live performance! Luke tells us how he was asked by Kavanagh to record the song.
What more could you ask for?
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Raglan Road.
Pump up the volume and enjoy.
