Meanwhile a Status Yellow snow and ice warning will remain in effect throughout the country until 3am tomorrow.

A Status Yellow weather advisory for “high” or “very high” seas will remain in place until 9am tomorrow for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick.

Today

It will be very cold today with widespread wintry showers, some heavy and with thunder too.

Accumulations of snow are likely, especially over the northern half of the country and mainly over higher ground elsewhere.

The strong and gusty westerly winds will make it feel extra cold.

Winds will reach gale force along the Atlantic Seaboard with some severe gusts and very high seas as well there.

Temperatures of just 1C to 5C degrees.

Tonight

Wintry showers will continue tonight but they will become less frequent later.

Lowest temperatures between -1C and 2C degrees in fresh to strong westerly winds.
