A truck driver has appeared in court charged in connection with the seizure of €1m worth of cocaine at Dublin port over the weekend.

Maurice McCreesh of Main Street, Fork Hill in Newry, Co. Down was arrested after he arrived on a ferry from the UK on Saturday morning.

Gardai objected to bail because of seriousness of the charge, but Judge Anthony Halpin agreed to release him under strict conditions. They include a €10,000 cash lodgement and the surrender of his passport. He will also have to sign on daily at his local Garda Station and abide by a curfew.

The 37-year-old father of three was remanded in custody with consent to bail and is due back in court later this week.
